2019: Ripe with Possibilities

Looking forward, I am resuming work on my creative projects, including this blog. There are a couple of areas that I’m interested in exploring this year.

Computer Vision

Wanting to pick up where I left off nearly a year ago, I took advantage of a Black Friday sale and purchased Adrian Rosebrock’s Practical Python and OpenCV 4th edition and accompanying video tutorials. My long-term goal is to use facial recognition to help me parse and catalog the treasure trove of family photos that I have accumulated.

Robots

Wanting to share my love for building and making with my daughters, I have been thinking about what has worked and what hasn’t. Hands down the most successful project was the Scribblebot. In a matter of a few minutes, we built and iterated on a design that generated hours of fun. In the coming year we will continue to tinker with variations on that simple and fun design.

Memorial Website for My Parents

I am planning a memorial website for my parents that pays tribute to them by showcasing some of their creative projects and endeavours. They made dozens of projects over their lifetime, many of which have served as both examples and inspirations for me as a maker and artist.

Next Steps

I think the first project I will tackle is working through a few of the computer vision tutorials and begin applying the methods I learn on family and personal photos.
